It’s the ropes and the reins, and the joy and the pain, and they call the thing rodeo
Well, that’s how Garth Brooks described it. But at Lake Chelan, the rodeo isn’t so much brute and brawn as it is good old family fun. Not to say those characteristics don’t exist, it’s just not the focus of this friendly competition. Y’all will want to come see the Lake Chelan Rodeo; go on, book your room!
A LITTLE HISTORY
The Lake Chelan Rodeo has been around for just three years shy of a century. Debuting on Independence Day in 1921, it featured farmers from valleys and ranches in the Methow and Okanogan areas. Although it was originally hosted off the beach near the city marina, it’s presently held in Union Valley and has been designated by locals as the “greatest show on dirt in the prettiest place on earth.”
LAKE CHELAN RODEO 2018
The Chelan FFA Alumni are responsible for producing the rodeo and it’s a wonderful way that you and your family can indulge in burgers, fun and “action packed hours of rodeo.” You’ll be on the edge of your seat as broncs and bulls buck their cowboys, and you’ll be in a fit of laughter from Rodeo clown and barrelman, Kyle Bode.
Just five miles from our resort hotel, the Lake Chelan rodeo runs today and tomorrow (August 3rd and 4th). Gates open at 5:00 PM with performances at 7:00 PM. In addition to a show, you’ll notice a wide variety of vendors and a Beer Garden.
If you’re bringing the kids, make sure they don’t miss the opportunity to participate in the highly anticipated “World Famous Chicken Race.” It’s a few hysterical moments of organized chaos where your little ones can exert their energy! They’ll also be in awe of the rodeo’s famous trick riders.
