Some caches are hidden in historical areas where you must learn a little about the area to move forward. This is a great hobby to learn more about a new area or if you have moved to a new city. Lake Chelan offers some great caches and there is always a log book to sign once you find the cache.
The boxes or containers that are hidden can range from a micro-cache, sometimes a container as small as a pencil eraser, to a large ammo box filled with toys and prizes. The general rule when you find a cache is to sign the log book and log the find if you are a member of geo-caching.com. If you take a trinket from the box it’s appropriate to leave something of similar value.
Geo-caching is free to join but there is an upgrade available. A Premium account allows better caches and typically harder to deduce puzzles. Many times the trinkets are a little better as well.
You never know what you will find or how you will get there but there is always something fun to learn when geo-caching. There is apps available for smart phones and you can simply drive, walk, boat or crawl right up to the coordinates. There is always a hint and records of those that have found the cache that may help you figure it out. Anyone can hide a cache if you are a member and allow others to find your cache.
